SUMMARY:Continental Ranch March 24th\, 25th and 26th 2023
DESCRIPTION:Continental Ranch- March 24th\, 25th\, and 26th 2023\nThe cost is $180.00 per person\nWe are proud to inform the climbing community that Austin Ascents has received a permit to climb at Continental Ranch. There are only a select few to receive this permit to climb here. The Ranch has climbs from 5.7 to 5.13 on sticky limestone. \nThe Continental Ranch is a privately owned property along the banks of the Pecos River in west Texas. The rock \nEmerald pools and miles of limestone\nis high-quality limestone. \nRock and Ice Magazine says the rock “has been compared to the fabled French cliffs at Ceuse.” While all established routes are single-pitch\, the cliffs are uncharacteristically tall for rock in Texas\, as some of the bluffs reach 300 feet in height. Route ratings range from 5.7 – 5.13 with many classic lines over the whole spectrum of difficulty. Several routes are long\, bring 60 or 70-meter ropes and tie knots in the ends. There are very few clip-in sport anchors here and climbers should come prepared to build anchors then clean and rappel or be lowered.  \nWe will meet on Friday at 12:00 noon to show you know how to lead belay\, lead climb\, set up anchors\, and clean anchors.  \nThe terrain on the ranch is extremely rugged and has seen very little human impact\, giving the climbing here a remote and adventurous feel. This is adventure climbing at its finest.  Due to the fact that most land in Texas is privately owned\, this is a rare opportunity for Texas climbers. \nIt is truly a gift to our climbing community that the ranch has opened its gates to climbers. \nThe Continental Ranch is a privately owned\, four-generation\, piece of property along the banks of the Pecos River and 15 miles northwest of Comstock\, Texas. The rock along the Pecos Riverbanks is made up of limestone\, of much higher quality than is found anywhere else in this area. \n The cliffs are uncharacteristically tall\, however a single pitch. There is an excess of 200 established rock climbing routes with rating ranges from 5.7-5.13. \nRock climbing at the Continental Ranch has not been allowed for approximately 15 years\, until new-generation owners. Late owners\, Marilyn and Howard Hunt first were approached by several geologists/climbers kayaking down the Pecos River mapping the topography of the cliffs. Prior to this time\, no one ever studied the limestone quality and striations along the Pecos River. Several climbers including Jamie McNally and Scott Melcer\, place a small fee in a designated box on the property. This continued for 5-6 years until ranch estate planning lawyers advised against it due to legal liabilities. \nWith a fresh approach\, the ranch has now acquired both insurance and a proper business entity entitled Continental Ranch Pecos River Expeditions\, LLC. Having the LLC in place allows the ranch to team up with other organizations that also have insurance\, to pursue and provide several types of outdoor sports and recreation. Climbing here requires more planning than usual. This amazing climbing destination is remote and requires logistical planning to ensure a safe and successful experience. You need to be prepared personally and realize that following the rules of the landowner is critical to everyone’s safety and success. \nThis is a climbing trip A GUIDED TRIP. If you are going to participate you must meet the following prerequisites: \nYou will be required to pass a skills test on the first day. This included: Lead Belaying\, Lead Climbing\, and Cleaning an Anchor. This will be for EVERYONE ATTENDING TO DO before you can go and climb on your own.  \n1- Be able to lead climb\, at a minimum 5.9\, or be with others who can. \n2- Be able to lead belay or be with others that can. \n3- Have all your own climbing gear for sport and/or trad. (there are a few trad lines.) \n4- The area is remote and has no/to minimal cell service. \n5- Camping is primitive and you MUST be self-sufficient with camping gear\, food\, and water up to 1 gallon per person. \n6- It is REQUIRED that you bring WAG BAGS or toilet bags to carry out your human waste. \nAll fees cover your camping and permit charges for Austin Ascents to run this trip. Austin Ascents is donating 5% of its profit to the American Alpine Club and 5% to the Access Fund for all the work they do on access\, trails\, and camping. We are happy to support those who support us. Thank you

SUMMARY:Hybrid SOLO Wilderness First Responder course November 5th to 9th
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid SOLO Wilderness First Responder course NOVEMBER 5 th to 9 th\nSOLO has begun a Hybrid WFR course. The participant does an online course that covers the first 4 days (at your pace) and then is in person for the last 5 days. This new model is great for those having a hard time getting 9 days off for the original course. The one thing you must complete is the 4-day online portion before the 5-day course start date.  \nWhat will you learn \nSOLO’s Hybrid Wilderness First Responder course covers the same content as the traditional Wilderness First Responder. The difference between the programs is that the hybrid course consists of 40-hours of pre-course online learning and 40-hours or five in-person practical days at SOLO or one of its Affiliates.\nThe course was developed in response to the events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to see a need in the field for students to continue to learn about and gain skills in wilderness medicine and medicine in general. \nIn order to practice what we teach by utilizing appropriate body substance isolation/personal protective equipment (BSI/PPE)\, the intention of the online part of the course is for students to obtain a majority of the didactic information through a self-paced program while safely distancing from peers and instructors. \nPart two is a five-day\, in-person\, practical-focused component of the course. If students are able to appropriately demonstrate skills learned during those five days and complete any associated assessments\, they will earn their Wilderness First Responder certification at that point in time. \nIS THERE A BOOK FOR THIS COURSE\, YES! Press the Buy on Amazon \n(press the button twice to go to Amazon) \n \nWHO IS THE WFR COURSE FOR? \nThe WFR is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants to advance their level of training beyond the WFA basic level of first aid training. \nWHAT IS TAUGHT? \nThe Hybrid WFR is 80 hours long (40 hours online and 40 hours in person). It focuses on the skills of Response – Patient Assessment\, and Critical Care; Trauma – Soft Tissue Injuries\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, and Spinal Cord Injuries; the Environmental Emergencies\, and Medical Emergencies\, including changes in the level of consciousness\, chest pain\, shortness of breath\, and abdominal pain. \nWHERE AND WHEN IS IT HELD? \nThe WFR online course is available at any time. \nThe 5-day practical portion of the Hybrid WFR is held at Camp Eagle 6424 Hackberry Rd.\nRocksprings\, TX 78880\, \nHOW MUCH DOES IT COST? \nThe online portion cost is $400 per person. \nThe Link to the SOLO course page    https://www.soloschools.com/training-information/ \nON THE COURSE PAGE LOOK FOR         HYBRID WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER (WFR) \nThe 5-day practical course is $500\,  YOU WILL PAY ONLINE AT AUSTIN ASCENTS    www.austinascents.com \nLook for the WFR Hybrid \nWHAT ABOUT ROOM AND BOARD? \nRoom and board can be arranged through camp eagle. SUMMARY:Continental Ranch climbing September 24th to 26th
DESCRIPTION:Continental Ranch- September 24 to 26th\, 2021\nThe cost is $200.00 per person\nWe are proud to inform the climbing community that Austin Ascents has received a permit to climb at Continental Ranch. \nRock climbing at the Continental Ranch has not been allowed for approximately 15 years\, until with new-generation owners. This included: Lead Belaying\, Lead Climbing\, Cleaning an Anchor. Thank you

In 2009\, the AMGA Single\n \nPitch Instructor Program was recognized for meeting the “training standards” of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA) and was granted the prestigious title of “Approved Association.” No other organization in the United States offering training in single pitch terrain can make that claim. Candidates should be passionate climbers with their own equipment (SPI Equipment List)\, regularly climb and have been rock climbing outdoors for at least 12 months. \nImportant: You must register with the AMGA to take this course. \nAMGA REGISTRATION \nSPI Course Length\nThe SPI Program is a three-day (27 hours) training course and a separate two day (16 hours) assessment.
